probably the best word for Dimbleby's features. his way of presenting is inimitable, it shows his remarkable intelligence and his ever-imploring curiosity. what i like most about him is the arch-British attitude of his, this being aloof AND sociable at the same time.the beeb delivers extraordinary images to illustrate the seven ages D. makes out in British history, starting with an "age of conquest" (1066 etcetera), followed by one of "worship" (Lindisfarne and the like), and so on through the centuries to our own "age of ambition", dealing with modern art and artists.What might have been a weakness, the huge scope, variety and, thus, arbitrariness of the subject, has in fact been turned into its great strength, offering unexpected information to the elderly britophile as well as to greenhorns. great fun, i must say!
